Then Again
You are Nova, a respected writer and environmental activist living in times of ecological, social, and moral turmoil. A change in the political landscape brings you close to a new leader and to the halls of power. You will have to navigate the resulting situations as best as you can.
This game's story takes inspiration from the life of Stoic philosopher Seneca, who was an advisor to Roman emperor Nero. I became acquainted with key events in Seneca's life mainly through James Romm's excellent 'Dying Every Day: Seneca at the Court of Nero,' based partially on the works of Suetonius, Cassius Dio, and other ancient and modern scholars.
Its other source of inspiration are current events and my own perception of them.
The game's inner workings owe a lot to Chris Crawford's Solution to Interactive Storytelling, which he used in his brilliant storyworld 'Le Morte d'Arthur.'
As an artistic artifact, this game is an expression of certain values and interests. Yet, it aims to capture not only something I think is good, but also something I think is true.
